His interdisciplinary research integrates coastal engineering, environmental fluid mechanics, climate change adaptation, tsunami science, numerical modelling, and coastal resilience. He has participated in more than 100 research and consulting projects, held visiting appointments at Harvard University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Tokyo, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, and is also active as a science communicator, writer, and artist.
